Laser Dentistry

Lasers have been used in dental procedures since 1990. For many patients, laser treatments are safe, effective and virtually pain-free, allowing the patient to enjoy a more relaxed dental experience.

At Smile Innovations, we use the Waterlase from Biolase to perform a variety of dental procedures, including cavity preparation, laser bacterial debridement, hemostasis, pain management, tooth whitening, root canals and more.

Laser dentistry can offer a number of benefits, including:

  • Reduced pain and bleeding: Lasers cause less damage to surrounding tissue than traditional methods, which can lead to less pain and discomfort.
  • Faster healing: Laser dentistry can lead to faster healing and tissue regeneration.
  • Reduced need for anesthesia: Lasers can often eliminate the need for anesthesia.
  • Reduced risk of infection: Lasers can reduce the risk of bacterial infections after procedures.
  • Less anxiety: The sight and sound of a dental drill can be anxiety-inducing, but lasers can be less so.

Some dental procedures that can be performed with a laser include:

  • Soft tissue shaping and removal
  • Gum disease treatment
  • Cavity detection
  • Tooth whitening
  • Setting and hardening restorative materials, such as crowns
  • Biopsies
  • Exposing wisdom teeth
  • Repairing damaged nerves
  • Treating tight frenulums
  • Removing tumors

The use of lasers for dental procedures requires special training. At Smile Innovations, Dr Boyd Patummas and hygienists have been laser certified and have received specialized training by the Biolase.

Laser treatments are often not covered by insurance companies for approved procedures at the same rate as traditional treatments.

Smile Innovations will work with you to determine the best combination of laser and traditional treatments for your dental needs and budget.
